Room 320, Monday morning

The last thing Sam had wanted to do last night was sleep, but he knew that Peter probably hadn't gotten much rest while he'd been at the clinic, and Sam didn't want to make things any worse for him now. Of course, there was a big difference between sleeping and lying in bed, staring into space and obsessing thinking about all the things he and his other self had done. Sam had managed to nod off a few times, but that just led to dreaming about Chuck, and about the other Peter, the one he'd scarred outside and in, and he ended up waking right back up, feeling even worse than before.

At the moment, Sam was keeping himself going by pressing his body tightly against Peter's and staring at his face. This world was different, but it didn't mean that their lives would automatically be different as well.

Peter was glad that everyone - but mostly Sam - was better and it had been nice to return to their room. Having Sam close while he slept was more than fine as far as Peter was concerned.

When morning came around Peter tried to snuggle closer, not quite ready to wake up yet.

Sam had no problem with snuggling, and keeping Peter close and safe, and all the other thoughts that went with that. Before he could stop himself, he traced his fingers over Peter's face, feeling the smoothness of his skin.

Peter nuzzled into Sam's touch. He mumbled something that sounded like "Morning."

"Morning," Sam replied quietly. "Did you sleep okay?"

Peter snaked an arm around Sam's waist so he could pull him in for a hug. "You're here and better. So yeah."

Peter's hugs had a way of making Sam feel better no matter what. "I'm sorry if I made you worried," he said. "Trust me, I would have given anything to not fall asleep."

"It's not like you did it on purpose," Peter said. "It's Fandom. It happens."

"I would have thought you'd be angrier," Sam replied. "I'm really glad it was just me and Dean though, and not you too."

"Angry at you?" Peter asked. "Why?"

"For...I don't know, getting myself involved in the whole mess?" Sam suggested. He had a feeling Peter would be mad if he ever told him about what happened with Chuck, but he wasn't planning on letting that out any time soon.

"I love you but man can you be stupid sometimes," Peter said, not without affection.

"I love you too," Sam said, not even minding the accusation about his sense. "I'm so glad we're together."

"I'm pretty happy about that too," Peter said. He moved in to give Sam a kiss.

Sam kissed Peter back, letting himself get lost in the feeling for as long as he could before he had to pull away. "Wait, can I ask you a question?"

"Sure," Peter said.

"Do you think if something ever happened to me, and I turned against you, you'd be able to kill me before I hurt you too badly?" Sam asked.

"We're putting aside the part where I can heal," Peter asked, just to be sure.

"I don't mean physical hurt, I mean emotional hurt," Sam replied. "Not something you can heal."

"I'm not going to take you out just because you insult me," Peter said.

"I'm not talking about insulting, Peter. I'm talking about the kind of things that make it so you won't even touch me."

If that didn't show Peter how serious he was, he didn't know what would.

"Like what?" Peter asked. "Tell me what you're scared of?"

"I don't know exactly what the other me did, but it was bad," he said. "I hurt Claire, and I hurt you so badly you..." He trailed off, not even sure how to describe the scar. "You hated me, but it seemed like you couldn't kill me."

"Maybe I didn't really hate you," Peter guessed. "I can't imagine anything you would do to make me hate you like that. Even with all the demon stuff."

"Neither can I, which means it must have been seriously bad," Sam said. "It was like I hurt you just by being around you, every time."

Peter instinctively held Sam closer. "That wasn't us. It wasn't you, and it wasn't me."
