One nice thing about having Scout so well trained was that Sam didn't need to put him on a leash when they went for a walk to know that Scout wouldn't run away from him, and that left both of his hands free to hold onto Peter. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't worried that Peter hadn't turned back into a human yet, but he didn't think there was much else he could do but continue to take care of him. He felt a little bad about missing the dance, but considering the track record he and Peter had, they probably wouldn't have made it out of their room anyway.

Though busy with his campaign, Nathan was happy to take a quick trip down to Fandom to check in on Peter. The dance mostly provided him with an excuse.

Of course, he had yet to find his brother. Luckily he spotted someone who might know where he was.

"Sam?"

"Nathan?" Sam said, surprised to see him. It took a moment before he remembered that the dance invites had gone out to a ton of people. "Uh, hey, how's it going?"

"Busy," Nathan said. He nodded towards the rabbit in Sam's hands. "New pet?"

"Um. Sort of?" Sam said uncertainly. "He's a temporary pet. At least, I hope."

"Of course," Nathan said. Moving on to more important topics, he asked, "I don't suppose you've seen my brother anywhere?"

Peter tried to burrow into Sam's arms as a way to hide.

Sam loosened his hold on Peter just a little so he could hide better, and acted like he had to think about that for a moment. "No, I haven't seen him today," he said. "I'm not exactly sure what he's up to. Maybe he's looking for you?"

"He's not returning my calls," Nathan said. There was a note in his voice that strongly implied he felt that Sam was falling down on the job if he wasn't taking care of Peter when Nathan couldn't contact him.

"Um, the phones went weird again a few days ago," Sam said. He didn't like lying to Nathan, but it was preferable to trying to explain why Peter was a bunny. "He might not have gotten your calls."

"Including his phone?" Nathan asked. He may have wondered why the bunny in Sam's arms was squirming so much, but he didn't care enough to ask.

"All phones. Every phone," Sam said, with a sharp nod as he held Peter tighter.

"I'm supposed to believe that?" Nathan asked. Granted he'd lived in Fandom so he knew it was possible, but he wouldn't be doing his job as a big brother if he didn't make this as hard for Sam as he could.

"Yes?" Sam said uncertainly, trying to come up with a bonus explanation. "And he's been helping me," he added. "I--I had a rough weekend last week, and Peter's been sort of looking out for me. I should have made sure he was still checking his messages if he could, I'm sorry." He was genuinely sorry, but only because he hadn't though to check Peter's messages himself.

"What kind of rough?" Nathan asked. Because so help them all if Sam had gone demonic again.

Luckily for Sam just then was when Peter transformed back from a bunny into a Peter.

Unluckily for Peter he wasn't wearing any clothes now that he was himself again.

"Oh crap!"

Having an armful of naked boyfriend? That wasn't a bad thing.

Having an armful of naked boyfriend in front of his brother while they were all out in public? That was a different story, and all Sam could do was stare for a moment before realizing how that looked and staring down at the grass.

There was pretty much nothing about this moment that was cool. There was also nothing in his life that had prepared Peter for this. Which was why he was mostly scrambling and stammering, and then ultimately trying to grab Sam to put him between Peter and Nathan.

Sam had been used as a shield before, but never quite like this. Still, he did his best to stand in front of Peter, and gave Nathan a sheepish look. "Um. I can explain," he said weakly.

"Please don't," Nathan said. As far as he was concerned he already had too many details. Then it occured to him to ask Peter "Is this a new power?"

"Fandom thing," Peter replied from behind Sam. He couldn't help the eyeroll as he added, "Do you think if this was a power I would've turned it off now? Like this?"

"It's just something that happens sometimes," Sam added. "You can't really do anything but wait for it to wear off."

"If I could turn back I would," Peter said. Because being an emo bunny was way less humiliating than this.

"How about one of your other powers?" Nathan suggested, because really.

"None of my other powers can turn me into a rabbit!" Peter said, as though Nathan was being a bit slow.

"They could make it easier not to see you," Nathan reminded him. Because Sam was not blocking nearly enough of the view in Nathan's opinion.

"What?" Peter asked. Then he remembered and felt really stupid. He turned on his invisibility and breathed a sigh of relief.

Even as Peter disappeared, Sam held his ground and stayed shielding him. "I'm sorry," he said. "I didn't really know how to tell you what was going on."

"'Peter's a rabbit' would've covered the details," Nathan pointed out. Though really he was just glad not to need any more brain bleach than he currently did.

"He's been a rabbit all week," Sam admitted. "That's why he hasn't been answering your calls."

"Did you take pictures?" Nathan asked. Because he felt he was owed.

Sam was glad that Peter was behind him and still invisible so he didn't have to look at him as he nodded. "He really was an adorable bunny."

"You'll be sending copies to me," Nathan told Sam.

"Nathan!" Peter said, trying to protest as best he could while still being invisible and hiding behind Sam. (At this point Peter wasn't taking any chances.)

"You owe me," Nathan told him. "Why are you still here? Go get dressed. Please."

Not that Nathan could see, but there was the principle of the thing.

"That's a good idea. And, uh, I'll e-mail those pictures to you," Sam said. He would have shuffled backwards to distance himself from Nathan, but he didn't want to add "tripping over Peter" to the list of this evening's embarrassments. "It was good to see you."

"I'm not saying the same," Nathan replied, mostly meaning it for how much he'd seen of Peter.

"Going now," Peter said. He grabbed Sam's hand to take him with him, which of course effectively rendered Sam invisible too. It was a happy accident that made for an even faster getaway.
