One of the few downsides to having a dog was having to walk him when it was cold and dark outside so he didn't jump on your bed while you were trying to sleep and bark in your face. At least, that was Sam's experience, which was why he'd gone right back out as soon as he'd gotten back to his room after the radio broadcast to take Scout outside for one last walk.
With Christmas only a few weeks away, Sam was lost in thoughts of present buying and potential celebrations, so he only noticed that Scout had stopped when, instead of simply pawing and sniffing at the ground like usual, he started barking and tried to run, yanking at the leash so hard that Sam almost let him go. There was nothing good that could make Scout act like that, and Sam immediately went on the defensive, but the time he'd spent with his guard dropped meant he was too late. Even in the dark, he could make out the black cloud that was coming towards him, and opening his mouth to speak, to try to ward the demon off, only gave it the opportunity to enter and force its way down his throat, filling him dark and deep.
If he'd had the chance to see the demon in its last body, Sam would have called it Meg. Now, it was Sam, and with a satisfied look at its new body, Sam headed out of the woods, and towards the causeway. Yes, there was a mission to be dealt with in Fandom, but it could wait. There was other fun to be had first.
