A secluded area of the beach, Tuesday evening

One thing Sam really liked about summer, and the time when it was close to being summer too, was that the sun was still out in the evening, which meant late dates on the beach were a completely viable option. He'd found an oversized towel for himself and Peter, and was currently debating whether he wanted to go in the water, or stay on the shore and just watch Peter in his bathing suit. His life was so full of hard decisions sometimes.

One of many reasons Peter liked the beach was that it afforded him something like privacy with Sam. Ironically enough. He got food suitable for a picnic dinner then joined Sam on the beach.

"Hey."

...yeah, the water didn't seem nearly as enticing as Peter did right now.

"Hey," he said brightly. "What's that you brought?"

"Soda, sandwiches," Peter said. He put the bag down. "Little pasta salad and some brownies thrown in."

"And all I brought was myself. Somehow that doesn't seem very even," Sam said with a gentle smirk.

"Do you hear me complaining?" Peter replied.

"Maybe you're too nice to complain," Sam pointed out.

"If you weren't here, I'd be complaining," Peter told him.

Sam grinned and moved to try to get a kiss from Peter. "I'd be wherever you are. My plan of spending the whole evening with you wouldn't work very well otherwise."

"I get a whole evening?" Peter kissed Sam back. "I like it."

"Well, you get the whole evening on one condition," Sam said, managing a serious look at Peter.

"What?" Peter asked, watching Sam carefully.

"Can you explain to me what it is about living on the Upper East Side that makes women crazy?" Sam asked.

Peter blinked... and blinked again. He sat down beside Sam. "Okay, so not the question I was expecting. Why? What's up?"

"I met Chuck's latest future conquest yesterday," Sam said. "Do you know Blair? Short, brown hair, super shrieky when she's pissed off?"

"Can't say it rings a bell," Peter said. "Though if she doesn't like Chuck that might be an argument for her sanity."

"I think they're friends, despite the pissed off part," Sam said. "Which, again, brings me back to the crazy."

"He... does friends?" Peter asked. Then he realized how that sounded. "I mean has them. We already know he does anything that moves."

"Well, like I said, she's Chuck's next conquest, but he said they've known each other for a while, which makes it sound like she might be as close to a friend as he gets," Sam said. "All I know is that she came into the wrong alcove last night and treated me like crap after seeing me for two seconds."

"What, he's farming in help now?" Peter didn't sound at all pleased. "I thought he was supposed to back off."

"He is backing off," Sam said reassuringly. "It seemed like Blair was mad because I made the mistake of existing in her presence." He wasn't going to mention the faking coughing and the scaring away, since she'd totally started it.

"Sounds like a real charmer," Peter said. "For the record, I don't mind when you exist in my presence. In fact I prefer it."

"I like existing in your presence more than anyone else's," Sam said, giving Peter another kiss.

"Good thing I'm so greedy for your company," Peter said, kissing back.

"And it's a good thing my company is something I'm so willing to give," Sam replied. "I guess it's not so bad, being stuck in a cabin away from you if we can still come out here like this."

"So I'm the only one counting down until we can be back in the dorms?" Peter asked.

"I wouldn't go that far," Sam said, laughing. "I'm definitely looking forward to being back in my regular bed, and having you there with me as much as possible."

"You'll have to pry me off of you," Peter replied.

"And if I don't want to? If I want to just keep you with me?" Sam asked. "I could always refuse to let you leave too."

"Somehow I'll find a way to put up with it," Peter said. "But only because I love you."

Sam grinned as he moved even closer to Peter. "That's good, because I love you too."

"You can't say that often enough," Peter said. "In case you were wondering."

"I love you," Sam said again, leaning closer and pressing a kiss to Peter's cheek. "Love you," he said softer, and kissed him again.
