Private Spot on the Beach, Saturday Morning

Sam felt a little groggy when he first woke up, and he didn't really remember falling asleep in the first place. As he woke up more, he realized that he couldn't remember anything at all, not even his name, or just as importantly, the name of the guy he was curled up with. This could be very uncomfortable.

Peter was sleeping pretty darned well for a guy who'd gone under while outside, on a beach, and fully dressed. Possibly because he didn't realize where he was yet, or that he didn't know who he was either.

Or he found his impromptu blanket to be very comfortable. Possibly both.

Peter burrowed closer to the warm body next to him and sighed contentedly.

The burrowing felt very nice, and Sam wrapped his arm around the guy to get closer as well. He wasn't in any pain, so moving away wasn't an immediate concern.

Oh, hey. Snuggling. Peter could cope. He instinctively reached for his companion's hand and went to pull it around his waist.

If this happened to make him feel warmer while he was lying on the beach in Virginia in the fall: bonus.

Sam let himself be moved to his partner's content, and opened his eyes finally to get a good look at him. "Good morning," he said quietly.

"Morning," Peter mumbled, still not totally awake yet, but getting there.

"Good thing it didn't rain last night, huh?"

That had sounded far less lame in his head. Maybe the memory loss was affecting his ability to be smooth.

"Guess so," Peter said. He raked a hand through his hair. Then he realized where he was. "Um... why are we on the beach?"

He had a lot more questions, actually, but he was going to take them one at a time.

"I don't know," Sam admitted. "I was hoping you'd have the answer to that."

Peter looked up at him. "Try not to take this the wrong way, but I don't remember."

"I won't take it the wrong way because I don't remember either. Were we drinking?" he said. "Maybe we did a lot of drinking."

Peter sat up. "I don't feel drunk. No headache or anything. You?"

Sam shook his head. "No, and I don't feel like I have a hangover. I don't feel bad at all, actually. Just confused."

"Yeah," Peter agreed. He took stock of himself. "Confused, don't remember my name or how we got here, and for some reason I feel like I'm supposed to be in Ireland."

"Really?" Sam asked, sounding a little relieved. "It's not just you, because I'm having the same problem. Except I feel like I should be in Kansas, but I don't think they have many beaches there."

"You wanna make the Dorothy joke or should I?" Peter asked. Then he automatically went to brush at a stray piece of sand that was trying to blow its way onto Sam's shirt.

"I'm definitely not in Kansas anymore," he said, watching the way Peter's hand moved. "Maybe that's a good thing though."

"You okay?" Peter asked. He moved his hand up to run light fingers under Sam's hair, if Sam let him. "Maybe you hit your head?"

Of course Peter hadn't hit his head but he was still trying to guess at possibilities.

"I thought about that, but my head doesn't hurt," Sam said. That didn't mean he wasn't going to let Peter run his fingers under his hair though. "What about you?"

"Same," Peter said. Since his hand was there anyway, he went to give the back of Sam's neck a light massage. Peter realized that he was very comfortable using physical gestures to connect with others. "I don't feel sore either, so that rules out trauma from some kind of attack."

Sam wondered if he should feel weirded out by the physical contact, but with everything else that was strange, having something feel comforting was kind of welcome. "Maybe we're just nuts," he said with a small laugh.

"Then we're nuts together," Peter said. He grinned. "At least we've got company."

"Good company, it seems," Sam replied.

"No complaints so far," Peter said. He kept up with the neck massage. It felt nice to have something to do. "Guess we should start narrowing things down. Pretty much all I remember is waking up here with you. Names, places - I got nothing."

Sam felt himself relaxing, and if he shifted closer to Peter to encourage the message, it was just that he couldn't help it. "Me neither. Maybe..." He trailed off for a moment, shifting just enough to reach for his wallet. "Maybe I've got ID or something."

"Oh, hey, good call," Peter said. He let go of Sam so he could pat himself down in search of a wallet or something. He did not, however, move far.
