Room 320, Late Tuesday Afternoon
Dec. 8th, 2009 04:25 pmWith classes, Dean coming to visit, and the crazy weekend, Sam hadn't had a chance to sit down and read the books he'd taken out of the library until this afternoon. Part of his reasons for waiting had to do with not wanting to get caught by Dean, and avoiding having to explain why he was reading about the other version of themselves, and another part was that he was genuinely worried about hitting a dead end. What if there wasn't anything in the books that would help him go after Sylar? He'd still be at square one, Sylar would still be alive, and Peter still wouldn't be avenged.
Sam was doing pretty well at ignoring the voice in the back of his head that liked to point out how revenge wasn't what Peter would have wanted at all.
Now that Dean was safely out of town, and he was holed back up in his room, Sam knew it was time to ignore the rest of his excuses and dig into reading. He'd decided to start at the end of the books, with the one titled "All Hell Breaks Loose" - that was when characters pulled out the big guns, after all, when the story was almost done. After looking through the books with Dean, he'd almost gotten used to reading about himself, but as he skimmed, he realized Andy was here too, along with two other girls, Ava and Lily, and a guy named Jake. They all had abilities - Ava had visions like him, apparently, but Lily and Jake had their own powers - and while it wasn't like Sam hadn't believed Castiel when he'd said he and Andy were dealing with the same demon blood, Sam hadn't really thought about the possible scope of people like them until now.
His original intent got a little lost as Sam flipped through more of the book, and he was trying to decide whether or not these people, like Andy, might exist in is own universe when Sam suddenly found himself with a lapful of antsy dog. "Scout, what the hell?" he said, dropping the book as he tried to keep Scout from knocking him flat on his back on the bed. Scout had his leash in his mouth and was giving Sam genuine puppy eyes as he poked him in the stomach with his nose.
"You really need to go for a walk now?" he asked, picking the book back up with a sigh. He'd almost set it aside, when seeing Ellen's name made him open the book fully to where the pages had fallen.
Sam's attention was pulled back to the present as Scout barked at him again, and he looked over at his clock. It was later than he'd realized, and if he didn't hurry with walking Scout, he'd be late for the play. Before he got up, Sam carefully marked the page, and tucked the book away, the words still fresh in his mind as he grabbed Scout's leash and headed out. He wasn't sure what Jake's last words meant, but maybe this wouldn't be a dead end after all.
[Dialogue taken and scene translated from "All Hell Breaks Loose: Part Two." Establishy la la la, and let's say that what Sam is reading is NFB while we're at it. :)]

"What, you're a tough guy all of a sudden?" Jake asked, surprisingly brave for a kid with four hunters surrounding him with guns drawn. "What are you gonna do, kill me?"
"That's a thought," Sam shot back.
"You had your chance. You couldn't," Jake said, easy and calm, like he didn't have a worry in the world.
Sam adjusted his hold on his gun and steadied his aim. "I won't make that mistake twice," he said, and Jake's attitude became even more out of place as he grinned and started to laugh.
"What are you smiling at, you little bitch?" Dean asked. This wasn't going down at all like he'd imagined.
Jake caught Dean's glance for a moment before turning his focus ever so slightly onto Ellen. "Hey lady," he said. "Do me a favor. Put that gun to your head."
Ellen's resolve faded as the feeling of command washed over her. Her hand started to shake, and though she tried to fight it, glaring all the while, she couldn't stop herself from aiming away from Jake, and putting the gun up against her temple. Sam was the first to turn away from Jake as he recognized Andy's ability in action, and he didn't look back until he heard Jake laughing.
"See, that Ava girl was right," Jake said. "Once you give in to it, there's all sorts of new mind tricks you can learn."
