Sam waited as long as possible over the course of the day before slipping away from the group of road trippers with a quick apology, and pulling out his cell phone to check in with Dean.

If he ended up getting connected to someone else in Fandom accidentally, he was going to turn his phone off altogether.

Dean was lounging in his room, watching a dl'ed copy of the new Mister What on his mini comp when his phone rang. He put it on pause and grabbed his cell from the night stand.

"Hello?"

"Hey Dean, it's me," Sam said. "I can't believe I actually got through to you on the first shot."

"Sammy!" Dean grinned. "Yeah, you wouldn't believe some of the calls I got yesterday. And I seemed to have got off relatively easy."

"You wouldn't believe some of the calls I got," Sam replied. "Like you congratulating me for sleeping with a hooker."

Dean blinked. "You got that call? I wasn't calling you, I was calling Professor Lyman."

"You were telling Professor Lyman I slept with a hooker?!"

"No, he told me you slept with a hooker," Dean said. "Accidentally."

Sam had a sudden fearful thought. "Please tell me you got my message about how I didn't sleep with a hooker and I'm disturbed to be related to you?"

"I could, but I'd be lying."

"Oh god oh god oh god," Sam muttered, facepalming. "Well, I was calling you to tell you I'm still alive, but now I'm kind of wishing that wasn't true."

"Come on, it's not that bad," Dean encouraged. "I mean it's not like you called Dad or something. Probbly someone who didn't even know you got the message."

"I guess," Sam agreed reluctantly. "And I seriously did not sleep with a hooker, no matter what anyone says."

"Not even accidentally?"

"No, Dean, not even accidentally. You know Dawn would kill me. And then she'd find a way to bring me back, and kill me again."

"I just kinda assumed if you had, it was before Dawn and you were too embarrassed to own up to it," Dean explained.

"Yeah, because I was running into all sorts of hookers before I started dating Dawn," Sam replied. "If I do ever sleep with a prostitute for some reason? I'm not telling you. Ever."

"You had a gift certificate to a brothel, Sammy," Dean reminded him.

"Which I never used, Dean," Sam replied. "They wouldn't even let me return it."

"But the point was you were running into hookers before you dated Dawn," Dean said. "Ones that liked you enough to give you a gift certificate."

"It was only Becky!" Sam said defensively. "And that was only because I helped her figure out how to turn her search engine's Safe Search off."

Deann chuckled. "You know this is something that would only happen to you Sammy."

"I know. The universe hates me," Sam said pitifully.

"Dude, if that's the worst you got to complain about..."

"I know, I should just shut up," Sam replied, sighing softly and hopefully away from the phone so Dean wouldn't hear. "So how's everything going there? Scout's not giving you any trouble, is he?"

"Nah, he's a good dog," Dean said, glancing over to where Scout and Hunter had curled up together for a nap. "Me, I'm just bumming around, taking it easy. How 'bout you? How's New York?"
